The choice of vacuum forming process directly affects material performance and final product quality. Below are key process factors and corresponding material selection recommendations:
Die forming
Process characteristics: High product appearance precision and excellent surface detail reproduction
Recommended materials: ABS, PMMA, PC; these materials can perfectly replicate mold textures.
Wall thickness control: High material ductility is required; PETG and flexible PVC are recommended.
Punch forming
Process characteristics: Accurate internal dimensions and relatively uniform wall thickness
Recommended materials: PP, PS, HIPS, with stable shrinkage rates.
Precautions: Avoid using highly elastic materials, as they may cause demolding difficulties.
Gas-assisted molding
Process characteristics: More uniform wall thickness, suitable for deep cavity products
Recommended materials: PETG, PC, certain engineering plastics
Advantages: Allows the use of materials with higher melt strength, reduces wall thickness variations
Professional Advice
For molds with complex structures and small demolding angles, it is recommended to use specialized sheets with better elasticity. This not only improves the demolding effect but also extends the mold’s lifespan. For deep-cavity products, materials with excellent ductility should be selected, or pre-stretching technology should be used in the manufacturing process.
